If you’ve lived in Southwestern Ontario for a good number of years, it can sometimes be all too easy to take the beauty of our surroundings for granted. We might not have the drama of mountain ranges in our backyards or be able to take in an ocean sunrise or sunset with any sort of regularity, but we are certainly blessed with some of the most attractive rolling countryside in all North America. And although we might not consider it too often while in the midst of a daily work routine or shuttling the kids back and forth from practice or recitals, in Southwestern Ontario you’re never more than a 90-minute drive from three of the largest and most stunning freshwater lakes on Earth.

When one combines our natural blessings with the vibrancy and diversity of Canadian culture, our relative freedom from major natural disasters, and the largely peaceful nature of our society, the factors which have contributed to the demographic expansion that our area has experienced in recent years are evident.

Southwestern Ontario plays host to several relatively major urban centres, such as Kitchener-Waterloo. Currently the fourth-largest population centre in Ontario (and the 10th largest in all of Canada), Waterloo Region’s growth has only continued to pick up speed in the past decade.  By 2046, our immediate area is forecast to have a population of over 870,000. 

Many will already be familiar with the contributing factors behind growth in Kitchener-Waterloo; namely plentiful investment in infrastructure, the relative strength of the local economy, and the simulative effect of our major post-secondary institutions on the emergence and development of a home-grown tech sector.  Not only have these incredible fundamentals powered our growth for the past decade – they’ve also helped us weather the recent pandemic in much better economic shape than many other areas of the province.
